At Salt Bath Body Refillery, we didn’t set out to build a soap empire—we just wanted to make something honest. Something simple. Our journey began with a single bar of humble tallow soap, made in a tiny kitchen with more curiosity than know-how. We weren’t thinking about shelf appeal or scaling up. We just wanted to make soap the way it used to be made—with care, good ingredients, and time.

That first bar was the beginning of something special. As we kept experimenting, learning, and listening to what our skin (and our customers' skin) needed, our little soapmaking project evolved. Today, we’re creating medicinal soaps with specific ailments in mind—particularly antifungal blends that don’t just clean, but truly support the skin.

So, what makes cold pressed soap different?

It’s all in the process. Cold pressed (or cold process) soap is made from scratch using oils, lye, and a whole lot of patience. There’s no melting pre-made bases or quick fixes—just natural saponification and a slow cure. Depending on the oils and fats used, each batch rests and cures for up to eight weeks. That’s time for the water to evaporate, the bar to harden, and all those skin-loving ingredients to come into their own.

We think of it like baking a really good loaf of sourdough—there’s a rhythm to it, and it can’t be rushed.

What we leave out matters, too.

You won’t find synthetic fragrances or artificial colourants in our soap. We rely on the pure, plant-based power of essential oils and natural ingredients to scent and colour our bars. It’s gentler on the skin, better for the environment, and, frankly, just feels right.

Then there’s the Chamomile Bar...

Ah, the Chamomile Soap. We almost didn’t mention it—because we can never keep it in stock long enough to list it online! It’s a creamy, calming blend of luxurious oils and soothing chamomile, and it’s become something of a cult favourite. People ask for it by name. We make it in small batches, and it flies off the shelves faster than we can cure it. It’s a bar that really sums up what we’re about: intentional ingredients, slow craft, and something that feels like a treat every time you use it. Making cold pressed soap is messy, time-consuming, and sometimes unpredictable. But we love it. Every bar is poured, cut, and wrapped by hand. It’s personal. And it’s worth every minute. Because we believe something as everyday as soap can still be special—still made with heart.
